May Your Hands Be Full of Clay and Your Head be Filled with Song

You are dialed into the clay slipping through your hands as you begin to have tunnel vision as everything is disappearing around you. The music bumping in the studio, blocking out any noise, making it just a little easier for you to imagine being in your own little world. I captured my friend, Jennah, bringing me through the process of how music is integrated into the process of making a bowl. To fully capture the process and the creativity of Jennah’s work I used Photoshop, to make edits and manipulations of the photos in order to entirely immerse myself into the creative mindset that the Thomas Anderson Roe Art Building is full of.

Jennah emphasized how the change of the beat in her music and the variety of songs that she plays when creating a bowl is what keeps the creative juices flowing, as well as her attentiveness in check. In order to fully embrace how vital music is for Jennah, I decided to show how each song represented a different step in the process of creating the bowl.

When shooting the process of making the bowl I began to find different perspectives and ways in which to abstractly envision and capture the process of making a bowl with the use of music and the earthy aesthetics of the Ceramics room.

With learning how to manipulate pictures on Photoshop, I learned how to look at basic, everyday objects from a different perspective. This resulted in my eyes creating a totally different image in my head from the obvious thing in front of me. As I reflect back on my experience, I noticed how music can help and influence your work if that might be art or another busy job, by letting you dismiss everything else around you and only focus on what you are doing in the present. In the future, I will integrate music into my work and also take a good look at how to manipulate my surroundings to abstractly amplify the vibe of the room or photo to illustrate a lively picture.
