Anyone can make a podcast. I never thought in a million years I would create my own podcast. The level of professionality that I felt in the edit bay recording and interviewing individuals to be a part of my own podcast was unreal. There were two main applications I had to use in order to produce my podcast, Zoom and Adobe Audition. Adobe Audition was used as my digital workstation for recording and editing. Zoom was used as my software platform used to interview my four volunteers to dive into what campus life is like at Furman University during the COVID-19 pandemic and how organizations and community members are helping to create safe and fun events for the student body. The two main tools I used to edit my podcast on Audition are called the razor tool and the recording function. The razor tool is where you can split clips and trim them to your liking. The recording tool is where you can record your voice or other audio pieces.

Necessary Editing Steps to Take:

1) listen to the podcast over and over to make sure there aren’t any unnecessary filler words or unwanted pauses

2) make sure to use the “match clip loudness feature” when you right click on a clip to match the sound level of the rest of the audio

3) make sure your verbal transitions and music transitions sync up well together

With the Zoom application it was very convenient to interview individuals without having to worry about clarity of the audio because of mask usage or social distancing when you can do it from your own safe place through a computer screen.

With my experience and newfound learning of using Zoom and Audition, I will be using the techniques of editing audio and doing online interviews within my future career of being in the event or sports coordinating world. These are some useful tools and techniques that you will be able to use around the world. For example, that might even mean interviewing someone during a global pandemic! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and process it took me to create my podcast and would highly recommend everyone creating their own podcast to have the professional experience right in your back pocket.
