What the United State’s smallest state lacks in size, is redeemed by its natural beauty, historical background, lively beach scene, as well as a tourist location for out-of-state visitors. Rhode Island is framed by 101 miles of coastline, which therefore makes us the “Ocean State.” I want to share with you today my favorite locations in Rhode Island, what they are known for, and the inside scoop as to why I am so grateful to have grown up in this great state.
NEWPORT
Newport is known as one of the most scenic summer getaway and tourist towns in New England and has been welcoming visitors for over 400 years. The town is best known for being a summer oasis for America's aristocracy during the Gilded Age. Wealthy families like the Vanderbilts, the Dukes, and Astors all built these summer homes here. These mansions are now museums that offer tours and are also used as a wedding venue displaying the impeccable, original architecture, old wealth, and the history of these rich families within the Gilded Age.
Newport is also globally known for being considered to be the sailing capital of the world. It was also host to the America's Cup for more than 50 years. The America’s Cup is a national yacht sailing race that has the power to bring together people from many countries, and puts a city on the world map, attracting visitors. The host of the America’s Cup receives benefits for fully embracing the Cup and for the competitors doing everything possible to help establish an exciting and vibrant event for visitors and locals.
Newport is my favorite town out of the ones I will be listing because it has some of the most incredible, scenic views there are in all of New England.

PROVIDENCE
If you are a big foodie, into exquisite art, and want to experience a variety of new cultures, I would highly recommend visiting the capital of Rhode Island, Providence. Providence is well known for its popular WaterFire art installation, but is also home to rich history, educational institutions, a vibrant art scene, and a diverse population. One must-see neighborhood is Federal Hill, one of the top Little Italy neighborhoods in the USA and a hot-spot for enticing dining options. My favorite restaurant in Federal Hill is Camille’s which takes on traditional Italian dishes served in elegant digs that include a patio & a lounge.

NARRAGANSETT
You want to play in the sand, surf some nice waves, and enjoy a great day at the beach? Take a drive down to Narragansett Town beach. Narragansett beach opens at 8:30am, however, I would highly recommend arriving there earlier than that so you don’t have to pay for admission, and you can get a great parking spot before everyone else gets there. I grew up going to this beach; it is very family friendly, with great, little cafes and restaurants right next to the beach if you get hungry, as well as there being enough room for people to not be on top of one another. If you are a surfing guru like me, I would recommend arriving at Narragansett Town Beach at 6am to watch the calming sunrise and catch the gnarliest waves of the day!
